Misra. He was then a senior scholar, in the last year of his pupilage, and at the top of his class.

In 1846 he was sent, under the orders of Government, to Ghazipur to study Civil Engineering with the Engineer then there. On his return from Ghazipur he studied law and the Government regulations Afterwards the third mastership of the College becoming Vacant and no quite suitable person being found to fill it, the Local Committee appointed him in April, 1847, to officiate as third master. After nearly seven years' trial the Government confirmed him in the appointment. In the beginning of 1857 the late Honourable Mr. Colvin, the Lieutenant Governor of the North-Western Provinces, summoned him to his camp, put him through an examination and as a mark of approbation presented him with a watch, at the same time promoting him to the second mastership which was then vacant He has been punctual and zealous in the discharge of his duties and as a teacher, he has always given great satisfaction to the Head-master, Professor Griffith.
