CRITICAL NOTES. 5 99 5) 5 53 5 1. 2. Kinhesi, so apparently Ib, which seems to vocalize the final. The word may, however, be also read kinhisa for kinhesa. The other copies in the Persian character simply have compis, which which may be read either kinhesi, kīnhasa, or kinhasa. Is and K have kinheçi for kinhesi. U has kinhasa. Throughout the poem a short e is inserted to form the past tense. Thus dēkhasi, he sees; dēkhesi, he saw. Ia tinhahi priti kabilāsi, Ibe parabata kabilāsā, id parabata kailāsi, Is tēhi prīti ka bilasi, U tihi parabata ka bilāsū. In the Persian character and out and gulles and you dlus are easily confused. In each case it is a question of a dot. There can be no doubt about the form kabilāsū for kailāsū being right. The word is of frequent occurrence in the poem and is invariably spelt thus in the best MSS. It is a curious corruption, and has puzzled all copyists with Sanskrit predilections. 3. Ib has pawana agini, Kagni pauna, Is bahutai, UK bahutē, P give no clue. 4. Is awatāri. 5. Ia kinhesi sapata dīpa brahamanda Ib löga IC sāta saraga Id (illegible) ? sēta pēta mahi bhanda Is kinhesi sata sata brahamandā (sic) U kinhasa sata saraga K kinhesi dipa Two printed editions follow Ia, except having mahi instead of dīpa, la is adopted as making the best sense. 6. Id sāta (also Ram Jasan), Ic? băwara ; sigãos (Sanskrit faria for goe) evidently puzzled the Nāgari transcribers. Is has khanda khanda, U kinhasa parabata mēru apārā. The P copies are undecided between khikhinda and khikhinda. The former is probably the correct reading. 2. K mācha, 3. U wahu bhárē, K jehi bhálē, niramále. 5. U ráhai, cáhai, N udai. 7.
