Answer 1.- I have always taken an interest in education. I am a Sanskrit. Hindi and du poct, and have compared many works in verse and prose. I started a Ilindi jour- 21, the Karirackana Sudia, which still exists. My aim hns always been to better the educatio ani status of my countrymen, to improve the vernacular langunge of these govinces, and to add to the stock of the vernaclar literature. I to alwnys taken i ensure in the enlightenment of my fellow countrymes, I have established a school for clementary education in the City of Benares. I was a metaber of the Benares Educa. tional Committee, and have had considerable opportunity of coming into contact with lose connected with the Educational Department and other mea of learning. I hate siven prizes to students and scholars of Government schools and colleges to encourage the Trancenient of learning I belour to the North Western Provinces, and my experience is confined to them. Question 2.-Do you think that in your procince the system of primary education has on placed on a sound basis, and is capable of development up to the requirements of the amority Can you suggest any improvements in the system of administration or in the arse of instruction ? Asier 2-As far as my knowledge and experience go, I an oi opinion that tha satem of primary education has been placed on a sound footing, and is quite cavablo of evelopment up to the requrements of the community was but a few slight amendments nd improvements. I consider the present system of managing schools by eduentional committees objection ble. The official members can hardly spare time to look after the schools which are situat a far from them in the district. The majority of non-oficial members attend the meetings ot because they have any love or even the smallest desire on thair part for education f their country, but only because they consider it an honor to be n.rember of such local oards, and because they would be entitled to a seat in the presence of the Collector. 1 are known many members of educntional committees who hardly themselves To POLI ne veruacular of the province, and they are enrolled as members becanse they are deseu mong the gentry, and some of them are such as cannət even claim that distinction 1 eldom know a non-officiai naamber of the cominittee visit a distriet school or tale.
