THE CONSTITUTION (SEVENTH AMENDMENT) ACT, 1956

An Act further to amend the Constitution of India

[19th October, 1956.]

BE it enacted by Parliament in the Seventh Year of the Republic of India as follows:—

Short title and commencement.

1. (1) This Act may be called the Constitution (Seventh Amendment) Act, 1956.

(2) It shall come into force on the Ist day of November, 1956.

Amendment of article l and First Schedule

2. (1) In article 1 of the Constitution,—

(a) for clause (2), the following clause shall be substituted, namely:—

"(2) The States and the territories thereof shall be as specified in the First Schedule.": and

(b) in clause, lior sub-clause (b), the following sub-clause shall be substituted, namely:—
"(b) the Union territories specified in the First Schedule;and".

(2) For the first Schedule to the Constitution as amended by the States Reorganisation Act, 1956, and the Bihar and West Bengal (Transfer of Territories Act, 1956, the following Schedule shall be substituted, namely:—

1. THE STATES

Name Territories
1. Andhra Pradesh.
The territories specified in sub-section (1) of sections of the Andhra State Act, 1953, and the territories specified in sub-section (1) of section 3 of the States Reorganisation Act,1956.
2. Assam.
The territories which immediately before the commencement of this Constitution were comprised in the Province of Assam, the Khasi States and the Assam Tribal Areas, but excluding the territories specified in the Schedule to the 1 Assam (Alteration of Boundaries) Act, 1951.
