(Impulses = nett, Appetites = grudi, Emotions = fallen, T 79, Sentiments = Ferraft 1a) As sentiments include emotions, emotions have connected instincts, as instinct of flight in Tear. (Instinct = f rt, Tendency=veiti). Impulses of self-display and self-alasement. Primary emotions-Tear, anger, disgust, joy and sorrow. Curiosity Flat, though having more the character of impulse, is called an emotion. Joy and sorrow include if not instincts at least minute tendencies the most general being to maintain some process already existing. The seeking and sucking the teat by infants are instincts of hunger or appetite. Continuing to suck as long as enjoyment is felt is the tendency of the emotion of joy. Thus joy and repentance either (1) consiquent on some other impulse or (2) not. The latter illustrated in examining ugly and beautiful objects. The Anger, fear, joy and sorrow minutely connected also with one another.
