परिशिष्ट into that high mood when he can see nothing between his tripod and the heaven of which he sings. THE POSITION OF POETRY IN RELATION TO OTHER ARTS. Old Greek saying "Poetry is a speaking picture and painting is a mute poetry" is in some measure answerable for the modern vice of excessive word painting. Notwithstanding the above saying Greeks studied poetry more in relation to music and dancing. Poetic art was called singing long before it was called making. But verbal melody of poets is something different from music and is not governed by the same laws. Many poets of melody had no ear for absolute music and some even disliked it. Among the delights of form in poetry the chief is expectation and the fulfilment of expectation. This is very obvious in rhymed verses. In blank verse also it is equally operative in poet's rhythm.
