(२८३) Sambat solah sai ektis-a, Karon Katha Hari-pad dhar Sisa, where assi gang is the name of the ghat at Benares at which he died, IX (Extract from--The Imperial Gazetteer of India Vol., XXI ( 1908 pp. 67-68. ] Rajapur Town (or Majhgawan) (2).-Town in the Mau tahsil of Banda District, United Provinces, situated in 25 23' N. and 81 9' E., on the bank of the Jumna, 18 miles north-east of Karwi. Population ( 1901 }, 5,491. Rajapur is the name of the town, and Majhgawan that of the Mauza of village area within which it is situated. According to tradition the town was founded by Tulsi Das, the celebrated author of the vernacular version of the Ramayana, and his residence is still shown. He is said to have established several peculiar restrictions, which are scrupulously observed; no houses (except shrines) are built of stone, and potters, barbers and dancing girls are rigorously excluded.
