Homage to the twenty-four Tirthankaras (1). Metaphorical description of the Rāma story as a river-Tradition through which it was handed down—The poet introduces himself-His resolve to recount the sacred theme of the Rama story (2). Following the convention, the poet modestly declares his ignorance regarding various branches of learning and literature (3). The Magadha country described (4). Its capital Rājagrha described (5). Śreņika, the king of Magadha described (6). Mahăvira's audience-hall on mount Vipula-A messenger informed the king of Mahavira's arrival (7).
