PREFACE. -مهم This book was prepared for the North India Tract Society by Rev. Aug. Brodhead, and Rev. T. S. Wynkoop. The hymns in English metres are for the most part taken from the Zabír aur Gít of the American Presbyterian Mission; though a few hymns have been added from other sources. The hymns in Indian measures are from the well-known na TE, सत्यशतक and अरुणोदय. So far as could be ascertained, the names of the Hindustání Melodies to which these latter should be sung are indicated with each hymn. Many of these melodies may be found in English notation in the Swár Sangrah. Tunes suitable for the peculiar English metres may be found in the Zabúr aur Gít, Edition with music. The 170th hymn is a translation of Hold the Fort, and the 174th of The Gates Ajar. The 173rd is Art thou Weary. The tune of the 171st may be found in the Int aur Rore ká Rágmálá.
