[ 2] and his own genius. From his early age he used to compose Po- etry and in 1864 at the age of only 14 his first Drama ras pub- lished. He was an Honorary Magistrate and a Municipal Comm- issioner for four years. He lost no opportunity to come forward in showing loyalty to the Throne when Princes of the Royal Blood visited this country. His liberal hand supported good many of his poor country men at all public events. He started a paper Kavivachanasudha, which is still in existence and two monthly magazines. If all the works which he published in the said papers be collected their number will be more than three hundred. He contributed not only to these three but to almost all the Hindi Journals and Periodicals. His liberality was so unlimited that for its sake he was often in trouble, A school in the midst of the city is existing as a good example of his liberality. He could read and write almost all the languages of India, Telgu ] and Tamil. His thoughts also were very liberal and that is the cause that he was not so much liked by the bigoted aristocracy. All Hindi Newspapers and leading Hindi and Sanskrit scholars of India gave him the title of Bhdratendu ( moon of India.)
