सन् १९१२ में इस बात की आशंका हुई कि कही गवर्मेंट कुचालियों के फेर में पड़कर वार्षिक सहायता बंद न कर दे। अतएव मैने डाक्टर ग्रियर्सन और डाक्टर हार्नली को पत्र लिखकर पूछा कि अब तक जो खोज का काम हुआ है वह कैसा है और भविष्य में इसे कैसे चलाना चाहिए। इन दोनो महानुभावों ने मेरे पत्र का उत्तर दिया। डाक्टर ग्रियर्सन ने लिखा- "I am very sorry indeed to learn from your letter that it is proposed to cease the Government subvention towards the search for Hindi manuscripts The report hitherto issued have been most valuable and it would be a serious loss to scholarship if they were to cease" एक दूसरे पत्र में उन्होंने लिखा- You are quite at liberty to quote me as saying that the discontinuance would in my opinion be a great loss to oriental studies
डाक्टर हार्नली ने यह लिखा- "Your society is doing most valuable work and it could be a great pity
