हमारी समझ में एच० एल० सी० महाशय का कहना बहुत ठीक है। उनका कथन लेखकों के महाकवि मतिराम आदि के विषय में भी पूरे तौर पर घटित हो सकता है। उन्होंने मनुष्यसमाज को उन्नत करने, अलौकिक आनन्द देनेवाले दृश्य दिखाने और प्राकृतिक नियमों का उद्घाटन आदि करने के विषय में भी कुछ किया? नहीं, तो फिर वे महाकवि, कविरत्न और परमोत्तम कवि होने के कैसे अधिकारी माने जा सकते हैं?
हिन्दी में यदि कोई कविरत्न कहे जाने योग्य कवि या महाकवि हुए हैं तो वे सूर और तुलसी ही हैं। रस, भाव, अलङ्कार, छन्दः-
